Visiting Artist Series 2003-2004
The department asked me to design materials for lectures given by invited artists and scholars in the coming year. The first three were a series while the others were conceived as singular events.The postcards for the first three offer designs on the front relevant to their content while maintaining cohesion to the series on the back, but those following focus wholly on the event.

Dr. Becker lectured on her journey with students to My Lai. The text describes the massacre there, and the shape of Viet Nam is comprised of the colors of its flag, with My Lai denoted by the yellow letters at the right.

Mr. Trujillo gave a lecture and workshop on weaving and his art, and the postcard references some of their colors.

Ms. Washington lectured on her research of Georg Olden, an important black figure in the development of early television graphics. The image in the postcard's TV screen is courtesy of Ms. Washington.

Mr. Nelson is a children's book illustrator and author whose work deals with Native American issues and is influenced by the journals kept by Native Americans forced to attend so-called Westernizing institutions.

学部が一年間に開催する招かれた芸術家や学者による講演のPR資料をデザインすることを依頼され、最初の三つの講演は一組として設けられ、その後のイベントは個別で主催された。そこで、最初の三つの講演の為のハガキのデザインは表面にイベント内容と関係があるが裏面にはシリーズ全体の一貫性を表す。その後に作った物のデザインはそれぞれのイベントだけを反映する。
キャロル・ベッカー博士ハガキ15cm x 23cm
ベッカー博士は学制連れでベトナムのミライを訪れた旅について講演をした。ハガキ中にある文字はミライの大虐殺事件を語り、ベトナムの国旗の色はベトナムの形を作って右の黄色い文字がミライの位置を示す。
アービン・トゥロヒーヨ氏ハガキ15cm x 23cm
トゥロヒーヨ氏は、織物と自分の作品に関する講演と講習会をした。ハガキは彼の作品の色を生かしたもの。
ミシェル・ワシントン女史ハガキ15cm x 23cm
ワシントン女史が研究した放送開始の当初からTV上でのグラフィックの発展に重要な黒人の人物であったジョージ・オルデンについて講演した。ハガキの古いテレビ台の画面にある絵はワシントン女史がご提供いただいたものだ。

S.D.ネルソン氏ハガキ15cm x 23cm
ネルソン氏は絵本のイラストレーター兼作家で、昔西洋化させる施設に強制的に行かされたアメリカインディアンがつけていた日記などに影響を受けて、彼らが抱える問題を作品に取り組む。
トッド・シャナフェルト氏ポスター28cm x 33cm
シャナフェルト氏の作品の一つとその色合い色調がこのポスターの特徴である。
