Poetry Slam 2003-2004

These posters were to advertise the Fargo Public Library's youth poetry slam as part of Teen Read Week in 2003, and again in 2004 for National Library Week due to their overwhelming popularity. The posters were distributed in junior high and high schools, as well as popular teen hangouts in the community.

The space at the bottom of Slammin' @ the FPL, the crumpled, ruled paper, allowed teens to interact with the poster and each other by writing their own "poetry" on it. Also, the overall feel of the poster was to illustrate the energy and confidence of youth.

While the theme of the first poetry slam was a typical coffee house, the theme of the second was akin to a pizza party. As such, Poetry & Pizza combines these two concepts in an offbeat image. The structure of the poster implies voice, as each design element is being "spoken" by another, originating with the Fargo Public Library and National Library Week.

このポスターは、2003年度ティーン・リード週祭の一環としてファーゴ市立図書館が開催したポエトリースラム（詩を用いて競争をするパフォーマンスアートの様式）のPRポスターである。2003年に行われたスラムの圧倒的な人気で、2004年に全国図書館週祭を機会にまた再び開催された。ポスターは中高学校や学生の行きつけの所に配布された。

「Slammin' @ the FPL」の下にあるしわくしゃで用紙のようになっている余白に若者が直接に自分たちのポエトリーなどを書き、このポスターを通じて他の人とコミュニケーションをとることができる。また、全体的な雰囲気としてこのポスターは青春の活気と大胆さを表している。

一回目のテーマは典型的な喫茶店であったが、二回目のピザパーティーによく似たもののテーマだったので、「Pizza & Poetry」のポスターにはピザとポエトリーという二つの観念を組合せてちょっと風変わりな絵になった。構成で「声」が見えて、それぞれのデザイン要素がファーゴ市立図書館・全国図書館週祭の原点から出て声に出されている。
