Aer 2004

12 16oz glass containers

As both an observer of and a participant in the furtherance of our visual culture, I am acutely aware of package design and its role in helping to persuade us to want and buy things we do not need. I created the packaging for Aer, "enhanced" air to be inhaled that supposedly offers the user a feeling of calm and relaxation, as a critique of attempts to develop new product categories that run in the face of common sense, such as the sale of air with claims to be better than what we breathe, at an excessive markup. The packaging is intentionally superfluous and wasteful, adding to the nonsense of an expensive, unnecessary product that can be used only once.
